All is on track for accumulating snow tonight.
Quick thoughts as of sunrise Friday:
All day to finish up your errands. Sun fades quickly today behind thickening clouds, and around 30 this afternoon.
Snow arrives this evening - probably around 8, give or take an hour or so, and continues effectively all night - ending an hour or so before dawn Saturday.
Amount: 2-4 inches on the ground at dawn Saturday when it's done, but shave off an inch or so traveling north toward Ashland. Add an inch or so south to Petersburg. Temperatures at daybreak in the upper 20s.
After lingering morning clouds, Saturday looks sunny. It turns breezy in the afternoon and gets into the low 40s, so it will be a good time to clear off sidewalks, cars, porches.
Saturday night will be clear and down to 18°, so slightly melted snow on Saturday afternoon will turn back to a hard ice.
Quiet weather for a while follows.
Sunny Sunday, upper 30s.
Next week looks dry and continues to be colder than normal - no big storms looming. 30s to low 40s during the day, teens to low 20s at night. Coldest part of next week is Tuesday night and Wednesday.
Final snow odds for Richmond:
30 percent: 4-6 inches
60 percent: 2-4 inches
10 percent: Less than 2 inches
